Acton Town Hall, Grade II listed building in Acton, England.
Acton Town Hall is a baroque-style building with seven bays across its front, featuring a central arched entrance framed by Doric columns. The structure displays sash windows arranged across multiple floors in a symmetrical composition.
The building was completed in 1909 to replace an earlier 19th-century structure designed by Edward Monson in the Italianate style. This new construction represented a shift toward classical design principles for civic architecture.
The assembly hall once served as a performance space where musicians held concerts and recording sessions. This venue was part of the local cultural life and attracted artists working in different musical styles.
The building was converted to residential apartments in 2018, with administrative spaces including the council chamber transformed into housing units. Public access is now limited, so check current conditions before visiting.
Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros recorded a live session here in November 2002, released as the album 'Live at Acton Town Hall'. This recording captured an important performance by the respected musician and his band.
