The LIC Building is an office tower on Anna Salai in Chennai. It rises fifteen floors above the financial district and presents a rectangular footprint with glass fronts.
Construction began in 1953 as a response to the growing need for insurance services after independence. Completion followed in 1959 and marked the establishment of a central insurance institution in South India.
Serving as the South India headquarters of Life Insurance Corporation, the tower represents the insurance industry in the region. Business professionals and employees pass through the entrance hall daily and work in offices on the upper floors.
Numerous bus lines and taxis stop directly in front of the tower and allow quick arrival. Visitors should come on weekdays, as the office building is typically closed on weekends.
The structure lights up brightly at night and serves as a landmark in the financial district. The illuminated facades are clearly visible from the nearby railway station and flyover.
