Satyawati temple, Hindu temple in Tinau Khola Valley, Nepal
The Satyawati temple is a Hindu temple set in a mountain valley in Nepal, at roughly 1,400 meters above sea level near a sacred lake. A smaller water body called Budhi Satyawati lies close by, within the same natural setting.
The temple was established in a remote mountain area of Nepal and has served as a pilgrimage site for centuries. The steady flow of devotees across generations has kept the site alive and active.
During the annual festival held between October and November, pilgrims walk around the temple lake three times while calling out their wishes to the goddess Satyawati. This act of loud, open prayer is central to how devotees connect with the goddess here.
The temple is reached by walking trails from the Siddhartha Highway, and a full day should be set aside for the hike up. Sturdy footwear and a local guide are a good idea for the mountain paths.
Local tradition holds that worshippers must shout their prayers because the goddess has difficulty hearing what is spoken softly. This makes the experience of visiting here noticeably different from most other Hindu temples, where silence or quiet chanting is the norm.
