Star City, Manila, Amusement park in Pasay, Philippines
Star City is an amusement park in Pasay district, within the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex near Manila Bay. The facility includes rides for children and adults, such as roller coasters, carousels, a Ferris wheel and several show stages.
The park originated from a Christmas exhibition of trade goods in 1976 and developed under Fred Elizalde into a permanent leisure facility that opened in 1991. Since then, operators and attractions have changed, but the site remained in continuous operation until a major fire in 2019.
The facility reflects the Filipino fairground tradition and shows how local families spend leisure time together. Groups of all ages walk between rides and food stalls, creating a relaxed, social mood.
The facility offers air-conditioned halls for families with small children as well as outdoor zones for larger rides, allowing choice depending on weather and preference. Between attractions there are food stalls and rest areas, making longer stays easier.
Snow World, an air-conditioned hall with ice and snow, was at opening the largest permanent ice rink in a tropical country and offered visitors the chance to try winter clothing. The facility also contained a small area with igloos and a sledding slope, which for many guests was the first experience of this kind.
