Zakrzówek, Limestone quarry and water reservoir in Kraków, Poland.
Zakrzówek is a former limestone quarry in Kraków that now holds two connected water bodies with steep white cliff faces around them. The deepest point reaches about 32 meters and the waters sit within naturally exposed limestone rock walls.
Limestone extraction shaped this place for many decades until operations stopped in 1990. After that, groundwater flowed into the abandoned pits and gradually filled them to create today's water bodies.
The site serves as a training ground for diving enthusiasts who can explore submerged objects including cars, boats, and old mining equipment.
The site is open Tuesday through Sunday with walking paths, observation points, and workout zones around the water bodies. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be aware of cliff edges, as many areas are steep and exposed.
The water glows in intense turquoise blue because of dissolved calcium carbonate minerals from the cliff walls. At the same time, the rock surface features many secured climbing routes that draw sport climbers.
