Ternoshorska Lada, Rock formation and shrine in Snidavka, Ukraine.
Ternoshorska Lada is a rock formation near Snidavka in the Kosiv Raion of Ukraine, rising about 130 feet (40 m) from the ground. It sits between three villages as a single massive block of stone standing alone in the Carpathian landscape.
The formation may have served as a sanctuary in early prehistory, though it could also be entirely the result of natural geological forces. Researchers have not yet reached a firm conclusion about its origins.
The rock takes its name from Lada, a Slavic goddess tied to fertility and love. Walking around the formation, visitors can see how its shape recalls ancient female figures carved in stone.
The site lies in a rural part of the Carpathians, so sturdy footwear is a good idea given the uneven ground around the rock. Going outside the rainiest months makes the walk around the formation easier and safer.
Some researchers believe the rock's shape was not left entirely to nature and that human hands may have worked the stone long before writing existed. This question remains open, making the site a point of debate among both scholars and amateur investigators.
