Home of Old Israel, Jewish assisted living facility in Brooklyn, United States.
Home of Old Israel was a residential complex in Brooklyn designed to house and care for elderly Jewish residents with comprehensive facilities. The building included sleeping quarters, communal spaces, gardens, dining areas, a synagogue, and an internal medical wing staffed by physicians.
The facility opened in March 1924 as a new housing and care center for the Jewish community. It later relocated to Jefferson Street, establishing itself as a long-term residential institution.
The facility maintained regular Jewish traditions through Passover seders, Chanukah celebrations, and interfaith programs while hosting entertainment events for the residents.
The complex was built to accommodate many residents with on-site medical care available through trained hospital staff. Visitors should know this was a working facility designed around health services and daily care needs.
The residence housed several centenarians, including Jennie Freeman at 108 years old, and maintained demographic records showing an average resident age of 77.3 in 1940.
