Brooklyn Mayor Alfred C. Chapin laid the foundation stone in 1891, followed by a banquet attended by 300 Democratic Party officials.
The building functioned as a gathering space with a banquet hall, card rooms, and meeting areas for Democratic Party members until 1941.
The structure contained multiple facilities across four levels, including bowling alleys, a café, billiard rooms, and a gymnasium for member activities.
Frank Freeman designed this Richardsonian Romanesque building with an unusual round-edged cube form, setting it apart from other political clubs.
