Le Pas de Soucy is a scenic viewpoint in the Massegros Causses Gorges area of France, set above the Tarn river where the water flows between tall limestone rocks with a narrow road running alongside. The viewpoint sits at roughly 1,480 feet (450 meters) above sea level, looking down over the river, the road, and the wooded slopes that frame the gorge on both sides.
The Tarn gorge was carved over thousands of years by the river cutting through the limestone of the Causse plateau. The road running through the valley below was built to connect small villages that had long used the river as their main route through this part of the region.
The name "Le Pas de Soucy" roughly translates to "the step without worry," which reflects how people actually use the spot today. Visitors tend to linger quietly, watching the light shift over the Tarn valley rather than rushing through.
The viewpoint is directly accessible from the D907bis road, with a small parking area nearby, making it an easy stop by car. There are no facilities on site, so it is worth bringing water and wearing sturdy shoes if you plan to walk along the edge paths.
At the base of the viewpoint, large boulders force the Tarn river through a narrow gap, and this natural passage is what gave the spot its name. Depending on the season, the water turns a deep emerald color that stands out sharply against the pale limestone around it.
