Le Cinglegros

Le Cinglegros is a viewpoint situated at about 772 meters elevation offering views toward the Tarn Gorges and the limestone plateau known as Causse Mejean. The panorama reveals the region's geology with sheer cliff faces and broad highland surfaces stretching across the horizon.

The site lies near ancient Celtic settlements from the 6th century BC where early communities established themselves in strategic locations across the mountainous terrain. These elevated positions provided control over the surrounding landscape for those early inhabitants.

Local shepherds continue working with their flocks in the surrounding grasslands, shaping the landscape through centuries-old grazing practices. This daily rhythm of pastoral life remains visible in how the land is managed and maintained.

Several marked hiking paths connect the viewpoint to Saint-Pierre-des-Tripiers village, ranging from easy strolls to more demanding trails. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a layer for changing mountain weather conditions.

This location is an excellent spot for watching vultures in their natural setting, as these large birds nest in the limestone cliffs that surround the area. Visitors with binoculars often get good chances to observe these raptors soaring over the canyons.
