Le Cinglegros, Scenic viewpoint in Saint-Pierre-des-Tripiers, France

Le Cinglegros is a viewpoint situated at about 772 meters elevation offering views toward the Tarn Gorges and the limestone plateau known as Causse Mejean. The panorama reveals the region's geology with sheer cliff faces and broad highland surfaces stretching across the horizon.

Le Cinglegros is reached by a marked trail from Le Rozier, at the confluence of the Tarn and Jonte, via the Rocher de Capluc and the Col de Francbouteille, a 14.5 km route. Signs before the viewpoint warn of a difficult section: a steep descent followed by a climb up a series of metal ladders to the top platform. The return passes the hamlet of Plaissance, lower on the Gorges du Tarn wall.

The name Cinglegros refers to the metal ladders (échelles) fixed to the rock, which hikers climb to reach the top platform; signs before the viewpoint warn of the steep descent and ascent. The route from Le Rozier passes the Rocher de Capluc and the Col de Francbouteille, and the return path runs through the hamlet of Plaisance.

Le Cinglegros is reached on foot only. From Le Rozier, a 14.5 km loop passes Rocher de Capluc, Col de Francbouteille and Cassagnes before the final section, where signs warn of a steep descent and climb up a series of metal ladders to the top platform. Shorter approaches of 5 to 10 km return start from car parks at Cassagnes or La Bourgarie on the Causse Méjean. The return via the hamlet of Plaissance runs lower along the Gorges du Tarn wall.

This location is an excellent spot for watching vultures in their natural setting, as these large birds nest in the limestone cliffs that surround the area. Visitors with binoculars often get good chances to observe these raptors soaring over the canyons.
