Château de Limouze

Château de Limouze is a medieval castle in Onet-le-Château, near Rodez, with a seven-level granary tower and an attached two-story residential building. The connected structures combine storage and living spaces that reflect different building phases over time.

The foundation of the complex originates from a Templar commandery established in the early 1100s, providing the region with its first fortified structure. Centuries later, the residential building was added against the granary tower, shifting how the property was used.

The chapel room inside holds an altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary, showing how religious spaces were woven into the building itself. Visitors can observe how this prayer space reflected the spiritual life of those who once lived there.

The castle is privately owned by the Ricard family, who maintain the historical elements but control access to the site. Visitors should inquire ahead about viewing opportunities and respect the family's use of the property.

A distinctive round dovecote tower stands at the entrance of the property, revealing the agricultural infrastructure of medieval times. This specialized structure was essential for providing fresh provisions to those living there.
