Château de Floyrac, 17th century castle in Onet-le-Château, France
Château de Floyrac is a 17th century residence consisting of three connected pavilions topped with Mansart roofs, positioned on a wooded hilltop. The location commands views over the Fontanges plain and the Marcillac valley below.
The residence was built in 1670 for Jean Cassan and his son Pierre, replacing an earlier structure destroyed by fire in 1617. Materials from the burned building were later repurposed for the construction of the Saint-Amans church.
The Department Council of Aveyron transformed the castle into a children's home, providing educational support and social services for vulnerable youth in the region.
The estate provides visitors with access to expansive grounds featuring gardens positioned to the east and enclosed by walls. A courtyard on the south side links the main house to several auxiliary structures worth exploring.
The interior features refined architectural details such as vaulted ground floor rooms and a grand staircase contained within the central pavilion. These elements showcase the quality of craftsmanship that went into the original construction and decoration.
