Foirail Public Garden, Urban park in Rodez, France
The Jardin du Foirail is an urban park in the heart of Rodez, running along the Avenue Victor Hugo near the historic center. It features walking paths, benches, tree groves, a children's play area, and planted beds with flowering shrubs and ornamental grasses.
The space was once a busy market where livestock and goods were traded, which is how it got its name. In 2014, the site was redesigned: old trees were removed, new species were planted, and paths along with a play area were added.
The name "Foirail" comes from the old Occitan word for a fairground or livestock market, which is still what locals call this corner of Rodez. Today, the space is used mostly for short breaks during the day, and children often play near the benches while adults walk along the paths.
The park sits in central Rodez and is easy to reach on foot from the nearby shops and the old town. It is open year-round and works well as a short stop between visits to other places in the city.
Students from the agricultural high school in Rignac took part in the 2014 redesign, cutting down old trees and planting new ones, including some rare species. In summer, a large buddleia shrub in the park draws butterflies, giving the space an unexpected touch of wildlife.
