Église du Sacré-Cœur is a Romanesque Revival church built from 1886 to 1898 by architect Henri Pons, who modelled it on the abbey church of Sainte-Foy at Conques. It follows a Latin cross plan with a choir apse flanked by stepped chapels, and an octagonal lantern tower rises over the transept crossing. The pale stone facade has two square towers with paired arched openings and hipped roofs, a central gable with a round clock and three tall arched windows, and an arched portal; a rounded drum tower stands to the right above the slate roof.

Construction began in 1886 to plans by architect Henri Pons (1849-1909) and ended in 1898, after strong urbanisation of Rodez's faubourgs. Pons modelled the church on the abbey of Sainte-Foy de Conques and on pilgrimage churches, with a Latin-cross plan and a choir apse flanked by stepped chapels. The church was inscribed as a monument historique in 2005.

The name refers to the Sacred Heart, a Catholic devotion that grew strongly in 19th-century France and gave the church its dedication. Inside, the decoration consists mainly of mosaics and sculpture, following the neo-Romanesque programme set by architect Henri Pons. Look for the carved figures around the west portal and the painted panel above the lintel, visible from the square.

The church stands on the left bank of the Aveyron, southwest of the old town centre of Rodez, and can be reached on foot from the cathedral in about twenty minutes. The facade with its two towers faces the street, so the building is easy to recognise from outside even when the doors are closed.

The octagonal lantern tower over the transept crossing is the feature to look up for; Henri Pons modelled the church on the abbey church of Sainte-Foy at Conques and on pilgrimage churches, hence the Latin-cross plan with a choir apse flanked by stepped chapels. The building was listed as a monument historique in 2005.
