Discovered by shepherds in 880, the statue became a significant religious symbol, leading to the construction of the first chapel on Montserrat mountain.
The Virgin of Montserrat, designated as Catalonia's patron saint in 1881, receives daily visits from pilgrims seeking spiritual connection at the monastery.
Visitors can view the statue in the basilica's upper section, where it rests in a silver altarpiece installed during the 1947 enthronement ceremony.
The statue features distinctive elements: the Virgin holds a sphere representing the cosmos, while Jesus carries a pinecone symbolizing eternal life.
