Via Crucis de Montserrat, Religious path in Monistrol de Montserrat, Spain.
The Via Crucis de Montserrat is a walking path with fourteen sculptural stations representing Jesus Christ's final moments. The route follows a paved trail that winds through the landscape and ends at a small chapel.
The path was designed and built between 1904 and 1919 by architect Enric Sagnier. The original sculptures were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, but they were replaced during the 1950s.
This religious route brings together local worshippers and pilgrims who walk through it for prayer and reflection. The path shows how faith is expressed through walking and stopping at each sculptural station.
You can reach the route starting from Plaza Abat Oliba, and it takes about twenty minutes to walk through all the stations. The path is easy to walk on foot and moves through varied terrain.
The sculptures were created by different artists and blend classical forms with modern designs. This artistic variety makes each station look distinct and shows different periods of sculptural work.
