Gorra Frígia

Gorra Frígia, Summit in Montserrat, Spain.

Gorra Frígia is a summit in the Montserrat mountain range with sheer rock faces and a height of 610 meters. The peak features multiple climbing routes and stands out as a key landmark within the massif.

The first recorded ascent took place in 1961 when climbers V. López, R. Carbó, and E. Civís successfully reached the summit. Since then it has become an established climbing destination in the area.

The name refers to the Phrygian cap, an ancient soft-pointed hat whose shape inspired the peak's distinctive profile in the landscape. Visitors recognize this form immediately when viewing the mountain range from certain angles.

Access to the base is via a marked trail from Sant Joan station, which takes about 15 minutes to reach the climbing routes. Weather can shift quickly at this elevation, so starting early and bringing proper gear is important.

The Via Óptima route spans 170 meters across four sections of varying difficulty levels. The route is equipped with fixed bolts, making it a structured option for experienced climbers.
