Montserrat Natural Park

Montserrat Natural Park is a protected mountain area in Catalonia with distinctive rounded rock formations rising above Mediterranean woodland. The site is anchored by a major Benedictine monastery set on elevated terrain, with smaller hermitages scattered across the landscape.

Benedictine monks settled here in the 11th century and expanded their community over the following centuries. The area gained protected status in 1987 when regional authorities designated it as a nature reserve to safeguard its geological features and ecosystems.
