Montserrat Natural Park, Protected mountain area in Catalonia, Spain.
The natural park stretches over 3,630 hectares of land, featuring limestone peaks that reach 1,236 meters at Sant Jeroni, the highest point.
The area received official protection status in 1987 when the Generalitat de Catalunya designated it as a natural park to preserve its geological formations.
The park houses numerous hiking trails leading to twelve former hermitages, where monks lived in solitude among the mountain's distinctive rock formations.
Visitors can reach the park through the towns of El Bruc, Collbató, Monistrol de Montserrat, and Marganell, with regular train connections from Barcelona.
The park contains over 1,250 plant species and hosts one of Catalonia's finest oak forests, supporting diverse wildlife including wild boars and peregrine falcons.
