Rosari Monumental de Montserrat, Art Nouveau monument in Collbató, Spain
The Rosari Monumental de Montserrat is a collection of fifteen sculptural groups arranged along a mountain path. The works connect the monastery complex with the Santa Cueva chapel, displaying different artistic styles and carving techniques.
The sculptures were created between 1896 and 1916, starting from Jaume Collell's vision and funded by wealthy supporters like Gertrudis de Camporrell. The project developed across two decades with contributions from multiple respected architects and sculptors of the period.
The sculptures along the path show different moments of the rosary and religious scenes that visitors can see and reflect on. These carvings invite people to pause and look closely at the craftsmanship while making their way up the mountain.
The path runs from the upper area toward the Santa Cueva chapel and is generally walkable, though it does require basic physical fitness. Wear solid footwear and set aside plenty of time to comfortably view all the stations along the way.
Each sculptural group was created by a different artist, resulting in a diverse collection of styles and personal expressions. This makes the path a kind of open-air gallery where visitors can spot the individual artistic voices of different masters.
