Lublin–Vilnius Portal, Digital portal installation in Lithuanian Square, Lublin, Poland.
The Lublin-Vilnius Portal is a circular concrete structure in Lithuanian Square with a large screen for video connections. It broadcasts in real time what is happening on the other side in Vilnius.
The portal opened in 2021 and symbolizes the connection between two cities that share a long common history. It uses technology to strengthen a relationship that extends back for centuries.
The installation brings people from Poland and Lithuania into direct contact, sharing daily moments between the two cities. Visitors can see what life looks like in Vilnius and spontaneously interact with people there.
The installation operates continuously throughout the day and is accessible to the public. Visitors can simply walk by and watch or speak with people on the other side whenever they pass through the square.
The round shape of the structure was inspired by science-fiction portals and blends traditional design with modern engineering. The design shows how architecture and technology can bring two completely different worlds together.
