Falls Brook Trail

Falls Brook Trail is a hiking route through Tunxis State Forest with a 1.5-mile path that winds through older growth forest. Multiple waterfalls, cascades, and pools appear throughout the walk on either side of the creek.

The Connecticut Forest and Park Association developed this route to make natural forest spaces available to the public. The trail sits within Tunxis State Forest, a protected area that maintains the region's woodland resources.

The trail traverses lands traditionally inhabited by Indigenous peoples, including the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan communities.

The route requires three creek crossings, but only one bridge exists, so careful footing is necessary. Visitors should expect wet conditions and trickier navigation, especially during high water or after heavy rain.

The loop section leads to Falls Brook Falls, where orange-hued rock formations create striking contrast against the surrounding plant life. These distinctive mineral colorations developed through natural processes and stand out noticeably near the waterfall pool.
