Trump International Hotel and Tower, Modern skyscraper and luxury hotel in Near North Side, Chicago, US
Trump International Hotel and Tower is a skyscraper with hotel and residences in Near North Side, Chicago. The building stands on the Chicago River and offers hotel rooms, condominiums, restaurants, and retail spaces across 98 floors.
Construction began in March 2005 on the site of the former Chicago Sun-Times building and opened in January 2009. In the first years after completion, this was the location of the highest residence in the United States.
The tower is one of the most recognized landmarks in the city and draws many visitors who photograph the skyline from the riverfront. In the restaurant and public areas of the hotel, you meet people from different countries who have come to Chicago for business or travel.
The hotel is centrally located near Michigan Avenue and offers direct access to many downtown shops and restaurants. From the riverfront, you get a clear view of the facade and upper floors of the tower.
The three lower floors were designed as public space and are wider than the floors above them. This stepwise narrowing of the form was a planning requirement so that the building would not cast too much shadow on the surrounding streets.
