Open-air museum of Łowicz's Folk Culture

The open-air museum in Maurzyce contains approximately forty traditional buildings including farmhouses, windmills, and craft workshops arranged across landscaped grounds. These structures were moved from villages in the surrounding region to demonstrate how rural residents lived and worked.

The collection began in the 1970s when buildings and items from surrounding villages were gathered to preserve the regional way of life. This project was part of a broader effort to document and protect rural cultures before they disappeared.

The museum displays handcrafted items like wooden furniture, woven textiles, and decorated paper cuts that were part of everyday life in local villages. Visitors can observe how these objects reflect the values and skills that people in this region passed down through families.

The site is best visited from April through October when buildings are open and weather is favorable. Guided tours are available in multiple languages, and free parking on the grounds makes it easy to access the museum.

The museum arranges two distinct village layouts side by side from different time periods, allowing visitors to see how rural architecture and living patterns changed over generations. This direct comparison reveals the differences between earlier and later building styles and settlement patterns.
