Maurzyce Skansen, Open-air folk museum in Niedźwiada, Poland.
Maurzyce Skansen is an open-air museum near Niedźwiada that displays about 40 historic buildings arranged to recreate the structure of a traditional village. The collection includes residential houses, farm buildings, workshops, and an 18th-century wooden Baroque church with its original furnishings and decorations intact.
The buildings were gathered from the historical Łowicz Duchy region starting in the 1970s and relocated to this site for preservation. This rescue effort saved examples of rural architecture that might otherwise have disappeared.
The handicrafts on display reflect the everyday skills of rural communities, particularly the colorful paper cut-outs made in the Łowicz tradition. In the cottages, you can see objects that were once common in every home and learn how people worked and lived together in these villages.
The museum is best visited during the warmer months from May through October when all buildings and outdoor areas are fully accessible. It helps to wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the different sections requires considerable walking.
The wooden Baroque church was originally from the village of Wysokienice and moved here with its complete historical interior fittings intact. This church building is one of the oldest elements at the site and displays the religious craftsmanship of the 18th century.
