Les sardinades de Port de Bouc, Mediterranean food festival at Port de Bouc Marina, France
The Sardinades is a summer fish festival at the marina where local cooks grill fresh sardines and Mediterranean fish daily over open flames. Tables line the waterfront, and visitors eat while sitting near the boats and water.
The event began roughly two decades ago as a way to honor the region's fishing heritage and the port's long connection to the sea. It grew out of a desire to celebrate what fishing meant to this community over time.
Visitors watch local cooks prepare sardines and other fish using methods passed down through generations in southern France. The waterfront becomes a place where people gather to eat, chat, and share food in the way people have done here for decades.
The festival runs daily from around 18.30 onwards, mainly from June through September, with tables set directly on the dock and waterfront. Wearing comfortable shoes helps, as you will be walking on uneven dock areas and stone paths.
The cooks often use traditional methods like grilling directly over open flame at the harbor, which sends the smell of fresh fish across the entire waterfront. Many visitors return year after year to find their favorite cook or a particular fish dish they remember.
