Insonnia, Mountain restaurant in Val di Zoldo, Italy
Insonnia is a mountain restaurant in Val di Zoldo situated in a converted former pasture house spanning two dining levels. The interior features stone walls, wooden beams, and a central fireplace that provides warmth throughout the dining spaces and mezzanine.
Beniamino Meneghetti and his wife Carla founded Insonnia in 1968, converting an old pasture building into a restaurant after returning from Germany. The venture grew through family involvement and has maintained its original approach over the decades.
The restaurant honors local Dolomite traditions through homemade dishes such as polenta made from family-milled flour, homemade pastin, and regional formai frit cheese. Diners experience a direct connection to alpine culture and recipes passed down through generations.
The restaurant offers spacious dining areas distributed across two levels, providing comfortable accommodation for different group sizes. The central heating and natural structure of the space create a cozy setting for extended visits.
Four of the seven Meneghetti brothers currently manage the establishment together, preserving family continuity and consistency over more than five decades. This shared leadership by blood relatives continues to shape the recipes, ingredients, and daily operations in an uncommon way.
