Sasso di Bosconero, Mountain summit in Veneto, Italy
Sasso di Bosconero is a mountain summit in the Dolomites that rises above the Zoldo Valley near Longarone with a distinctive pyramid shape. The south side features the Grave de la Rocca, an extensive scree field that forms a natural passage toward the peak.
The mountain was first conquered in 1878 when a team of mountaineers led by guide Santo Siorpaes explored the route to the summit. This expedition marked the beginning of the peak's documented climbing history in the Alps.
The mountain features prominently in Alpine climbing literature, with its name reflecting the local Italian heritage of the Veneto Dolomites region.
The main route goes up the south side, with hikers encountering rocky terrain and steep sections along the way. It is advisable to check weather conditions and scree stability before attempting the climb.
Two natural passages separate the eastern side from the western side, making the mountain a key reference point in local Alpine geography. These passes are regularly used by hikers to move between neighboring valleys.
