Chiesa di Nostra Signora del Cadore

Chiesa di Nostra Signora del Cadore is a mountain church featuring a double cabin shape and a 68-meter bell tower at 1000 meters altitude. It overlooks the Boite valley and Pelmo mountain, with an interior divided into three naves furnished with interlocked wooden benches.

Construction started in 1958 under architects Edoardo Gellner and Carlo Scarpa, with the inauguration in 1961 attended by Enrico Mattei. This project emerged during a period of architectural innovation in the post-war years.

The interior blends iron, wood, and dolomite stone with orange and green Murano glass chandeliers that reflect the mountain surroundings. These materials and colors create a direct connection between the sacred space and the natural landscape outside.

The church opens to visitors during summer days and accommodates up to 350 people across three naves. Plan your visit during daytime when natural light highlights the colored chandeliers.

The altar faces the congregation, an architectural solution implemented years before similar changes by the Second Vatican Council. This arrangement was uncommon at the time and reflected the designers' forward-thinking approach.
