San Martino

San Martino is a parish church in Valle di Cadore situated on a rock formation overlooking the Boite Valley. The building offers views of the surrounding Dolomite mountains and dates from between 1718 and 1719.

The present structure replaced an earlier religious building and was consecrated in 1736. Construction at this exposed location continued a sacred place that had offered worship for generations.

The interior displays paintings by Antonio Bettio showing the Adoration of the Magi and The Last Supper. These artworks reflect the artistic importance this place held for the community over time.

The church reopened for worship following consolidation work against landslides on May 1, 2023. The exposed rocky location may be challenging to reach in poor weather, so checking conditions before visiting is wise.

The church stands on the remains of a Roman fortress, combining religious architecture with an ancient military position. This location has been preserved as strategically important for human activity in the region across centuries.
