Phoenix Seagaia Resort
Phoenix Seagaia Resort is a beachfront resort on the coast of Miyazaki, made up of multiple hotels, spa facilities, restaurants, and sports areas spread along a long stretch of shore. The grounds are divided by a black pine forest that runs between the buildings and the beach, giving the property a layered, park-like layout.
The resort was developed in the 1990s, when Miyazaki was growing as a travel destination and attracting large investments in tourism and leisure. After a difficult financial period, Sheraton took over management of the main hotel tower, and the property was gradually updated.
The name "Seagaia" combines the English word "sea" with "Gaia," the Greek name for Earth, reflecting the idea of harmony between the ocean and the land. Walking through the grounds, visitors notice how the black pine forest separates the buildings from the beach, giving the whole place a natural frame.
The resort sits about 25 to 30 minutes from Miyazaki Station by bus, and the grounds are large enough that comfortable shoes are worth wearing for moving between areas. Some facilities are open year-round while others, such as the outdoor beach areas, are seasonal, so checking in advance helps plan the visit.
The resort contains an indoor pool area built with white sand and a wave machine to mimic a tropical beach regardless of the weather outside. This facility, once listed as the world's largest indoor water park, has drawn visitors who come just for this experience and nothing else on the grounds.
