West Point Museum

The West Point Museum is housed in Olmstead Hall and displays thousands of objects across four floors showing military history and how warfare developed over time. The exhibition is divided into several galleries, each focusing on different aspects of military equipment and practice.

The museum was founded in 1854 and holds extensive collections from the American Revolutionary period, including General Thaddeus Kosciuszko's sword and George Washington's portrait. It grew into one of the largest institutions of its kind, documenting the military history of the United States.

The collections display weapons and equipment from different eras, showing how warfare and military practice changed over centuries. You can see how soldiers were equipped and what tools were available to them in each period.

The museum is located on the southern end of the United States Military Academy and is open daily with free admission for all visitors. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes, as the four floors and several galleries offer much to explore.

The museum displays the container that transported the Fat Man atomic bomb during World War II, a rare and historically significant artifact. This object tells the story of one of the most pivotal military operations in modern history.
