Yigal Allon Centre
The Yigal Allon Centre is an art museum in the Emek HaYarden Regional Council that combines history, art exhibitions, and education. The facility houses collections about the Galilee region, a gallery with rotating displays, an outdoor sculpture trail, and a 1st-century wooden boat discovered near the Sea of Galilee.
The centre was established to honour Yigal Allon's legacy, a key leader in Israeli history. The wooden boat displayed inside dates to the 1st century and was discovered in 1986, shedding light on daily life during the time of Jesus and the Jewish revolt against Rome.
The centre is named after Yigal Allon, a key figure whose vision shaped the region. The gallery displays work by local artists from Galilee, and the site brings together Arab and Jewish communities through shared cultural activities and exhibitions.
Check ahead before visiting as opening hours may vary and advance booking may be required for certain visits. The grounds are easy to navigate and allow enough time to explore both the indoor galleries and the outdoor sculpture trail.
The wooden boat on display was discovered in 1986 by two brothers who spotted it protruding from clay, and was later preserved in a special exhibition room. This artefact offers a direct window into everyday life from about 2000 years ago on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
