Villa Melchett, Heritage villa in Migdal, Israel
Villa Melchett is a stone house on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee, built with colonial architecture and Mediterranean design elements. The structure combines European style forms with local building techniques, featuring rooms that retain their original furnishings.
British industrialist Alfred Mond commissioned the house in 1928 as a summer residence for his daughter, showing how European elites settled in Palestine. Architects Benjamin Chaikin and Zelik Axelrod shaped the building's character and its adaptation to the local surroundings.
The villa shows how British wealth and style came to this region during the early 20th century, with European tastes mixing into the local landscape. You can see this blend in the architectural choices and the way the space was designed for a specific kind of living.
Visitors can tour the house only with advance reservations, with a guide leading through the rooms and sharing stories about the Mond family. It helps to plan ahead and reserve a time slot by phone or online before arriving.
A working bar operates inside the house where staff dress in 1920s clothing and serve drinks while you sit among original furnishings. This functioning bar, still used daily, turns the visit into an experience that goes beyond just viewing rooms.
