Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu
Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu is a hotel in the Dōgenzaka district of Tokyo, built directly above the Shibuya Mark City complex. The building connects to Shibuya Station through an indoor walkway, which means guests can reach the platforms without stepping outside.
Shibuya grew from a modest railway stop into one of Tokyo's busiest districts over the course of the 20th century. This hotel opened as part of the Shibuya Mark City development, a large complex built over the station in the late 1990s.
Dōgenzaka is known for its nightlife streets and fashion shops, and the hotel sits right in the middle of it all. Walking through the surrounding lanes, visitors find small bars and restaurants stacked on several floors above street level, a typical layout in this part of Tokyo.
The hotel is accessible directly from inside the Shibuya Mark City building without crossing any streets, which is helpful in bad weather. The reception is on an upper floor of the complex, and signs inside the building guide you there from the station entrance.
The hotel sits directly above a stop on the Keio Inokashira Line, so trains actually pass beneath the lower floors of the building. Guests in rooms on that side of the building may occasionally feel a slight vibration when a train pulls in.
