Luchtvaartmuseum Aviodrome

Aviodrome is an aviation museum in Lelystad with over 100 aircraft displayed across indoor and outdoor sections, featuring historical planes, contemporary jets, and hands-on exhibits. The collection spans multiple eras of aircraft design and technology, showing how flying machines have evolved across the past century.

The museum was founded in 1955 by KLM airline and Fokker aircraft manufacturer, initially operating at Schiphol Airport. In 2003 it relocated to Lelystad Airport, where it gained much more space to expand and display its growing collection.

The museum displays a replica of the 1928 Schiphol terminal, preserving how air travel looked during that formative period of Dutch aviation. This reconstruction shows how travelers experienced departures and arrivals when flying was still new to the Netherlands.

The museum is best enjoyed in fair weather since many aircraft are displayed outdoors and require walking between areas. Plan comfortable shoes and time to explore both indoor and outdoor sections, as the collection is large and spread across the site.

The museum offers sightseeing flights in classic aircraft such as the Cessna 172, allowing visitors to experience the region from the air in a way few museums provide. Additionally, guests can examine the rare DC-2 painted in its original KLM colors, a significant aircraft in aviation history.
