Aviodrome, Aviation museum in Lelystad, Netherlands
The Aviodrome is an aviation museum located at Lelystad Airport with over 100 aircraft spread across multiple buildings. The collection displays historical planes both inside climate-controlled buildings and outdoors in an exhibition area.
The museum was founded in 1971 at Schiphol Airport under the name Aviodome with a distinctive geodesic dome structure. In 2003, the collection relocated to Lelystad Airport and expanded to its current form.
The museum shows how flying changed the way people traveled and how the Netherlands became part of aviation history. Walking through the exhibits, you notice how Dutch pilots and engineers shaped the industry over time.
Weekday visits tend to be less crowded than weekends, giving you more space to explore the exhibits. Wear comfortable shoes since you'll walk a lot moving between indoor and outdoor areas.
The museum houses a complete KLM Boeing 747-200 aircraft that was transported to the site by barge. This plane is one of the main attractions and demonstrates the scale of the collection.
