The Lodge at Gulf State Park
The Lodge at Gulf State Park is a hotel located directly on the beach in Gulf Shores, built in 2018 as a new structure within a large natural park area. The building features rooms overlooking the Gulf of Mexico or Lake Shelby, multiple on-site restaurants, a pool, and direct beach access via two ramps from the property.
The current building was constructed in 2018 to replace an older lodge that had been damaged by storms and environmental incidents. The new construction was part of broader efforts to protect the coastal area and restore the natural ecosystem of the park.
The hotel takes its name from the Gulf State Park that surrounds it, reflecting the area's focus on environmental protection and outdoor living. Visitors experience this connection daily through free bike rentals and direct access to the beach and nature trails throughout the property.
The hotel has on-site parking and charging stations for electric vehicles, though guests should bring photo identification and a credit card for check-in. The layout can feel confusing at night, and some rooms are located far apart, so visitors should expect longer walks and may want to bring a sleep mask since blackout curtains do not fully close.
The hotel offers free bike rentals for a few hours through the Bloom app, allowing guests to easily explore the thousands of acres of the surrounding park. This complimentary service lets visitors discover hiking trails, lakes, and birdwatching spots without paying additional rental fees.
