Caféothèque de Paris, Café in Paris, France

The Caféothèque de Paris is a café near the Hôtel de Ville in central Paris, specializing in hand-roasted coffee from around the world. Inside, wooden tables and chairs fill a simply decorated room, with soft lighting and the smell of freshly roasted beans in the air.

The Caféothèque opened in 2005, making it one of the older specialty coffee shops in Paris. From the start, it focused on in-house roasting and sourcing beans directly from small farms, which shaped how many Parisians came to think about coffee quality.

The Caféothèque is one of the first places in Paris to roast coffee on-site, and visitors can watch the process from the counter. Posters on the walls describe origins and farming methods, turning a simple coffee stop into a small lesson about what ends up in your cup.

The café is open every day from early morning until the evening, making it easy to stop in during a walk through the area around the Hôtel de Ville. It is worth taking a bit of time rather than rushing, since the staff are happy to suggest what to order and beans are also available to take home.

Although the décor draws inspiration from South America, the beans on offer come from a wide range of growing regions, including Ethiopia and Guatemala. This makes it one of the few spots in Paris where you can compare several brewing methods side by side during the same visit.
