Museu da Imagem e do Som, Cultural museum in Pinheiros, Brazil.
The Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) is a museum for photography, cinema, television, and digital media art in the Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo. It spreads across several floors with exhibition rooms, archive areas, and a space for contemporary installations.
The museum began in 1970 from an initiative by Brazilian intellectuals who wanted to document emerging audiovisual productions. Today's facility gathers decades of Brazilian media output under one roof.
Visitors see the names of Brazilian artists on records and photographs that document everyday life and the country's media history. The rooms show how sound and image play a role in people's daily routines and how Brazilian creativity expresses itself through different media.
The museum sits on Avenida Europa in the Pinheiros neighborhood and opens Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM, with extended Saturday hours. Temporary exhibitions on the ground floor are often accessible without long waits.
The LabMIS inside the building offers a residency program for artists who experiment with new media and work on productions within the museum walls. Visitors sometimes encounter the artists directly in the work areas.
