Heidecksburg Castle

Heidecksburg Castle is a Baroque palace in Rudolstadt with white facades, prominent towers, and geometric gardens arranged on multiple terraced levels. Inside, it houses over 4000 historical weapons and an extensive art collection with paintings and furnishings from different periods.

The castle began in the 13th century as a fortress built by the Counts of Orlamünde and was reconstructed in the 18th century after being destroyed in conflicts. This rebuilding transformed it into the Baroque palace seen today.

The rooms display furniture and decorations from the time when the Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt family ruled here. Visitors can see how the nobility lived and designed their home during that era.

The castle is reachable on foot or by public transport and sits on a hilltop above the town. The stairs to the entrance are steep, so visitors with mobility concerns should ask about elevator access.

The Rococo Miniature exhibition displays detailed small replicas showing scenes of 18th century court life. These finely crafted miniatures offer a playful glimpse into the daily routines and rituals of the royal household.
