Friedrich Schiller stayed in the upper floor during summer 1785, where he wrote the second act of Don Carlos and the first version of An die Freude. The building dates to the early 18th century and originally served as a simple residence for farm workers.
The house now serves as a branch of the Leipzig City History Museum, displaying exhibitions about German literature and Schiller's work. Visitors can experience how the poet lived and understand the place's importance to his creative output.
The building underwent extensive renovations in the late 1990s and reopened to visitors in 1998 with improved structural integrity. The site is easily accessible on foot and the rooms are compact, making a visit straightforward and manageable.
