Shima Mediterranean Village
Shima Mediterranean Village is a seaside resort in Japan composed of buildings that resemble small houses in a Mediterranean town. The complex features multiple zones designed after Mykonos, Spain, and Italy with narrow streets, white walls, and sea views, plus accommodations, restaurants, cafes, shops, and a spa with heated mineral water.
The resort was created to give visitors a taste of Mediterranean culture in Japan as part of a tourism initiative in the Ise-Shima region. Streets and buildings were carefully designed after popular areas in Spain, Greece, and Italy to make visitors feel they were walking in a different country while remaining in Japan.
The village reflects Mediterranean architecture with whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, and colorful facades that echo Spanish and Greek towns. Visitors experience a lifestyle here that encourages relaxation and leisurely exploration, with cafes for lingering and shops selling local crafts and Mediterranean-inspired goods.
The village is best reached by free shuttle bus from Kintetsu Ugata Station and operates from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Wear comfortable shoes for exploring the narrow streets and bring a camera for the colorful views; many visitors combine their visit with boat trips and nearby activities.
The resort features a Turkish-style spa with heated mineral water sourced from deep underground that relaxes muscles and refreshes guests. Many visitors seek out this spa on special occasions like birthdays and report how soothing and memorable the experience is.
