Yokoyama Viewpoint, Observation deck in Agochō-Ugata, Japan
Yokoyama Viewpoint is an observation deck in Agochō-Ugata, Japan, made up of five wooden platforms set at different heights above Ago Bay and the Shima Peninsula. The platforms are linked by paths and let visitors look out over the coast and surrounding hills from several angles.
The original structures at this site were extensively renovated in spring 2018 and replaced with new wooden decks. The work made the viewpoint more accessible and comfortable for visitors.
The MiradorShima cafe at the viewpoint serves bagel sandwiches and scones made with ingredients from local Ise-Shima producers. Eating here is a good way to taste the food traditions of the peninsula without going far.
The viewpoint is about a ten-minute drive from Kintetsu Ugata Station, and parking is available at the main entrance. Those who want to visit all the platforms should allow enough time to walk between the different levels.
On clear winter days, Mount Fuji can sometimes be spotted from the highest platform, which surprises most visitors who do not expect to see it from this far away. The sight is not guaranteed and depends on weather conditions on any given day.
