Kamiji Dam

Kamiji Dam is an earth-fill dam in Isobecho-Erihara that rises approximately 30 meters above the surrounding terrain. The structure manages water flow across the region while serving dual purposes of flood control and agricultural irrigation.

The dam was completed in 1974 and represented a significant step forward in water infrastructure development for Mie Prefecture. The project emerged from growing needs to secure water resources for the region's expanding population and agricultural sector.

The dam location in Isobecho-Erihara reflects Japanese engineering principles that integrate water management structures with surrounding natural landscapes.

The best time to visit is during dry season when water levels are low and the entire structure remains visible. Sturdy footwear is recommended as areas around the dam can be uneven in places.

The structure uses natural earth materials instead of concrete, which is less common in modern dam engineering. This construction method allows better integration with the surrounding landscape over time.
