Bold Rock Nellysford Cidery
Bold Rock Nellysford is a restaurant and cidery in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Nelson County, Virginia, where apple cider is made using traditional methods and tasted on site. The grounds include a production area with visible bottling processes, outdoor decks with river views, and an indoor shop selling glasses, packaged cider, and merchandise.
The operation began in 2012 as a small project in a barn making cider for family and friends. Growth led to expansion, with the new Barrel Barn opening in 2017 to create additional space, and a partnership starting in 2019 enabled distribution across multiple states.
Bold Rock Nellysford reflects how apple farming and craft cider making are woven into local life today. Visitors sit on the decks, sample different varieties, and chat with staff about the craft while watching the mountains and river.
The site sits on Rockfish Valley Highway and is open daily for tours, tastings, and meals in a relaxed setting. The outdoor area welcomes dogs, and visitors can bring their own picnics or order light food on site.
The Barrel Barn opened in 2017 in a converted historic barn that originally served as production space and now creates room for experiments with cocktails, seltzers, and wines. This space also hosts tastings and live music on select weekends, blending the site's history with new craft experiments.
