Three Ridges Wilderness is a protected mountainous area within George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Virginia. The terrain rises from river valleys to high ridgelines, covering roughly 1,900 hectares (4,700 acres) of forested slopes and peaks.
The area received official wilderness protection in 2000 as part of the national system of preserved wild lands. This designation made it one of many forested mountain spaces protected by the federal government.
The Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club maintains the trails, fostering a community dedication to preserving natural spaces through volunteer stewardship programs.
The Appalachian Trail runs through the area for about 10 miles and serves as the main route for hikers. Two mountain shelters are positioned along this trail to support multi-day hiking trips.
