Momofuku Ssam Bar
Momofuku Ssam Bar was a restaurant in Manhattan's East Village known for its creative, constantly changing menu that blended Korean and international flavors. The casual space featured communal seating and dishes designed for sharing, including steamed pork buns, spiced rice cakes, country ham with coffee mayo, and sausage preparations.
The restaurant opened in 2006 as David Chang's venture into casual dining with serious food, quickly becoming influential in the city's food scene. After nearly two decades, it closed at the end of September 2023 when the lease ended and was not renewed.
The restaurant operated in the East Village before relocating to the Seaport area, serving lunch and dinner throughout the day. Arriving early or making reservations in advance was essential, as the place filled up quickly during busy hours.
The restaurant famously played music from The Strokes, evoking early 2000s nostalgia and adding a distinctive soundtrack to the dining experience. This musical choice became a signature element that reflected the venue's casual yet culturally aware identity.
