Darłowo Castle, Gothic castle museum in Darłowo, Poland
Darłowo Castle is a brick structure with four levels and a 24-meter tower that sits on an island formed by branches of the Wieprza River. The four-sided building now serves as a museum displaying rooms filled with objects from different historical periods.
Construction of the castle began in 1352 under Duke Boguslaw V and was later redesigned by Eric of Pomerania between 1449 and 1459 following the model of Kronborg Castle.
The museum displays furnishings and objects that reveal how wealthy residents lived in this area long ago. These collections offer insight into daily life and tastes across different periods in the region.
Access to the island is by footpath and easily walkable. Plan for at least an hour and a half to two hours to explore the full exhibition inside.
A mummified cat skeleton was discovered within the walls during renovations, believed by locals to have served as magical protection. This unusual find reveals the superstitions of earlier residents and is now displayed in the castle.
