Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam
The Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam is a hotel in central Amsterdam made up of 55 connected historic canal buildings that stretch from busy Dam Square to a quieter canal at the back. The property contains over 400 rooms and suites decorated simply in soft colors with large windows and some offering views of the square or canals.
The hotel started in 1856 as a small coffee house founded by tailor Adolph Krasnapolsky and grew gradually through the purchase of neighboring buildings. By 1883 it had become a full hotel with modern conveniences of the era such as running water and telephones in every room.
The hotel bears the name of its founder Adolph Krasnapolsky, a former tailor whose craft is still reflected today in the decor of The Tailor Bar and throughout the spaces. Visitors can walk through hallways filled with old photographs that document how this place grew from a small coffee house into a major hotel.
The hotel sits directly on Dam Square with Amsterdam Centraal train station within easy walking distance, making arrival and exploring the city center simple. The buildings have ramps and elevators where needed to support different mobility requirements.
The hotel has a special room called the Champagne Room where guests can taste different champagne varieties by the glass in a quiet and elegant setting. This intimate tasting experience is one of the hotel's lesser-publicized offerings and provides a relaxed way to explore different selections.
