The site evolved from a small pilot institute in 1918 to become Germany's main aircraft testing center, employing 4000 engineers and test pilots by 1940.
The museum exhibits document the separation between 2500 German residents and 4000 Soviet military personnel through a divided village from 1945 to 1993.
The museum offers guided tours by appointment and maintains seasonal opening hours, with different schedules from February to March and April to October.
A 19-meter Libelle Torpedo Boat from the post-war Rechlin shipyard, which manufactured military vessels, remains preserved in the museum collection.
